The technical term for this is Bayes poisoning. It tries to disable those
spam filters that use Bayesian analysis to look for word frequencies to
determine whether something is "spam" or "ham".
The general concensus AFAIK is that the poisoning doesn't really
inconvenience spam filters to any degree.
