Weird indeed. But Windows is a weird system by itself... Do you have 
Windows XP, or an earlier version? Plus there's the question of SPs... 
I've installed SP2 on Win XP and never had problems, but I know people 
who are tearing their hair over it.

I've also seen a lot of good reviews for AVG so I guess if I had 
problems with Avast, I'd switch to that one. McAffee and NAV are *very* 
annoying. And not even very efficient.
