[LMB] OT: Fire in the Wellington CBD

Hi guys,

My morning turned out to be rather more eventful than I had anticipated, and
I thought I might share now, just before I go to bed.

I don't think there are many people on this list who work in the Wellington
CBD, and get there around 8.30am on a weekday morning. If, today, for some
reason you were there, no doubt you would have noticed that the Willis St
end of Lambton Quay was blocked off, and that there were multiple fire
trucks parked nearby with office workers milling around.

And unless you worked up in the AMI Plaza or higher, you would have passed
by, wondering at all the commotion. Whereas we got to spend two hours
mucking around waiting to be allowed back into our building.

There was an electrical fault with one of the florescent lights on the 14th
floor which caught fire around 8.15am this morning. Shortly after that, the
glass was broken, the fire alarm set off, and everyone who arrived slightly
early was hurrying down at least 6 flights of stairs. There were photos, but
I forgot to send them to myself. I shall do so on Monday, and post them
then. Most of the things in that office (except, perhaps, for the files)
will have to be scrapped.

So, yes, an actual fire for once, and not a false alarm.

On the plus side, we had plenty to talk about at work drinks tonight. And I
found my flatmate's birthday present.

Katrina (who has been through two drills and three false alarms in the past
eighteen months at church and none at all in the previous job)

Prayer, he suspected as he hoisted himself up and turned for the door, was
