i call myself an original feminist - equal pay for equal work!
my high-school graduate sister is working as a secretary in a place wehre
'of course they hired a girl for this work, they could never get away with
paying a man so little'.
and as soon as she gets through college, she doesn't want to work so cheap
either :)
women still have a harder time getting ahead than men in the USA. (i don't
travel/research enough to speak for other countries) sure there are a few
token CEOs, female congressmen etc, but the most basic equal pay for equal
work isn't always there.
i remember reading recently of a female electric engineer, where the entire
rest of the (male) crew took a break while she was working electric, which
is not remotely a safe practice! she quit, bec. demanding and getting equal
opportunity to do the work was not supposed to leave her in a life
threatening situation... they had never have left a male crew member alone
like that.
and euqal promotion for equal quality work isn't there either. it seems the
only way the USA will have a female president is if two women run against
each other. margarate thatcher and indira ghandi apparently didn't prove
that women can do the work, and i don't know if their countries had other
female leaders.
ziviya, wondering if the male teachers where i work get paid better than
me...
