Yeah, unless they didn't mean it--if they didn't mean it, and
were just saying it to feed his ego because he wouldn't force
them to act on it, it's believable for the era it was written in.

Which is what he seemed to think.

Later it turned out to be true, but that was after all the
Martian stuff-n-nonsense.

I love SiaSL, but that book and some of MZB's books weren't
really good for me when I was a teenager, because I thought my
relationships in real life could be like that--it so didn't work.

Also, I am a CAW (www.caw.org) survivor.  That organisation eats
people up like it was Dumbledore and they were lemon drops.
