the chapter opens w/fawns blood all over dag's pants. fawn is embarassed by
the mess. dag calms her, but is secretly worried worried enough for 2 at
all that blood loss from such a bitty girl. i find it odd htat fawn is not
worried, doesn't she feel weak from blood loss and generally lousy from
being beaten up by mud-men?

dag is sorry about the baby's loss. five minutes too late! again. a
wonderful line: "he'd been down that road and back p it enough times to be
throughrouly tired of the scenery." so he tells fawn - and himself - to
concentrate on getting her better. tomorrows problems can be solved
tomorrow.

fawn worries about dag stepping in the jam she used to slow up the mud men.
and she worries about bleeding and staining the ticks. now, i admit i'm not
much of a housewife, but is this the time for her to be worrying aobut this?
same problem as before. i do not understand this girl at all at this point.

dag finds something to put between her and the matress. also something to
help clean her up, which he always appreciated when he was recovering. "if
you cant fix the real problem, fix something else?" *snicker* maybe htat's
what fawn is doing, too. don't worry about the baby or possibly dying, just
worry about the mess.

fawn doesn't want dag *stranger alert!* to wash her up. he gets past this
by asking her to wash his single hand, putting himself into the catagory of
*needs help* himself, and not *dangerous male*. very clever. not many
men will step off hteir pride long enough to ask for help even if they don't
need it.

with various comforts, fawn finally stops shivering and shaking. dag can
also monitor her well-being by looking at her ground, which goes from grey
to light. nice trick.

they try to figure out what farmers do for miscarriages. fawn's mom isn't a
midwife, being too busy w/everything else. dag shares a story where -he-
was a midwife (!!!) back when he had both hands. he was 22, but the mom had
three already, and told him waht to do. with suitable names. which dag
saved up for later *snicker* (i suspect that she, being -long- out of the
schoolroom, had better names than 'stupid') "the next bandit i faced didn't
look -nearly- so scary!" *hahahahahahahahahahahahaha* made fawn lagh, even
if not as hard as me.

> Rest and recovery period for both Fawn and Dag. Fawn, despite nerves and
> logical caution, trusts Dag enough to share a bed. Nor does she get
> alarmed when he spoons with her. Dag spends the day nursemaiding Fawn.
>
dag first asks if she'd like him to sleep on the portch. she looks at him
over blankets pulled up to her lips. said lips are light pink, not blue,
which is a good sign. and very, very, neatly slipped detail about fawn's
slow recovery without hitting you over the head with it.

fawn does not get the joke about sheep being safe tonight. *snerk* i'm not
surprised she missed that one, among things she might have heard about
lakewalkers, considering what -else- was left out her education in that
area.

fawn wakes up in middle of hte night w/dags handless arm around her. seh
realizes he must be asleep, or he would keep it out of sight. she finds it
rather comforting that he is between ehr and anything coming thru the door.
even if he is scarier than anything, after the bandits, mudmen, and malice
are dead, and he is not.

by the time she wakes in the morning, dag has washed. his scratches look
less scary w/the blood off. adn she can't tell where he is from several
feet away in the dark <lol> interesting detail - the rough, homemade soap is
scented with lavender adn mint.

dag takes care of messy medical stuff prosaically enough to keep her from
*male person alert!* embarassment

which were all very interesting, and does not come across as info-dump at
all due to emotional attachment of the characters to the topic.
dag offers to break teh sharing knife primed w/fawns baby. she says not
yet. "and on the other hand - there is no other hand'. oh my, thats a
bit... um. not exactly creepy, but still.
