Now I didn't find birth (or miscarriage) nearly as daunting as Fawn did,
but I totally got the bit about fretting over the bloodstains, jam,
etc. I suppose in hospitals one doesn't notice as much, cuz the nurses
go to a great deal of effort not let not even a speck of blood appear
(or other, less pleasant bodily excretions, and how Fawn must have
thanked the absent gods she didn't have to cope with Dag cleaning
*those* as an aftermath---Ha! just realized another reverse, that comes
up later in the book...heh, heh, heh how I love those kinds of
structural details). But Fawn is in some *other* farmwife's house,
with only a man to help, no other support, and thus automatically took
on the role of mistress-of/responsible-for the place.

That kind of fretting will finally cut out as more resources are taken
up with the moment-to-moment, but not until.

And my mother was not much of a housewife---I still managed to absorb a
lot of those expectations, and was some 15 years older/more assured than
Fawn. Not to mention being in my own house, as opposed to worrying
about messing up someone else's.

So I understood her feelings just fine.

Thought it was an excellent touch.
