Dag goes back on Patrol -- very reluctantly. Fawn makes friends at the
inn and in town while being helpful - also shows that Fawn is insatiably
curious about everything and especially about Dag. Fawn is only accepted
among the Lakewalkers as long as she's showing the Malice marks.

Lakewalkers are opaque to outsiders -- Fawn can't tell the Patroller
groups apart. Fawn learns more and so do we with her. Lakewalkers have
Farmer prejudices, and one accidentally insult Fawn. Dag takes offense,
and Mari notices. Fawn dismissed the exchange. She saw it as the insult
as the speaker being an "ordinary lout” as discussed in conversation
with Mari.

Dag is fretful when separated from Fawn. Mucho Bondo. The fellow
patrollers start twitting him on it.
Dag: “I’m not being jealous..." *grits teeth* "I’m not being jealous...”
Saun: "Dude, she's all about you."
Dag: “Oh." *blinks* "I guess that’s okay then.”
Saun: *sniggers* “Dude.”
Mari is very much against the Mucho Bondo Thing. Dag knows he shouldn't
be doing what he is but doesn’t want to stop.

Dag outfits Fawn for the road with tack for her horse/war prize. This is
important since they're taking the knife for further exam and stopping
at her farm on the way. Fawn is very reluctant to go and gets a promise
from Dag not to leave her there, at the farm.

Some mutual Farmer/Lakewalker history. Lakewalkers responsible for the
Farmers moving into the area. The information seems lost to most
farmers, or at least Fawn. The two factions are remnants of an older
people. Malice history, they are a war remnant, emerging from the ground
like cicadas and collect things to give them a body.

Glimpes into the Patroller life -- busy and over worked. Endlessly so.
Lakewalkers are badly understaffed and over worked (10 lakewalkers to
support 1 patroller).

Landscape - Swamps and rocky ravines to add to the hills. We have
politics to add to the mix. Lakewalker needs vs. Farmer wants and
unknown needs for Malice protection.

Story Deduction:
General consensus for Lakewalkers -- “Farmers are not good enough to
sleep with let alone marry”. That makes Dag’s and Fawn’s romance very
“wrong side of the track” and very nearly “Romeo and Juliet.” It also
re-inforces my impressions about Lakewalker blood lines. “Dipping your
wick in the strange” indeed. Petti Horseforge, the farmwife, had a right
to be angry about her cousin’s treatment. Mari and Petti have the same
world view “Never the Twain Should Meet”

Dag should have been string bound and fathering children by now as per
his genetic duty. Dag is still living day by day, but wants Fawn
tomorrow and beyond. Dag was pretending to be dead but now he is now
coming back to life again thanks to Fawn. The process seems painful.

Dag is antagonistic with his Mom. Mom sounds pushy. Incluing? Foreshadowing?

Fawn is more forgiving of unintentional slights. Dag defends her to
Lakewalkers the way she defended him to Farmers. Incluing?
Foreshadowing? Either way, it’s a nice balance of care and concern. Not
quite a “You and me against the world” but things seem to be heading in
that direction.
