And brick -- I found when I was researching my own little thing-that-ate-
my-head -- takes upkeep. It's not just a one-time expense. Of course,
even a dirt street will take upkeep, and I didn't research the difference,
but brick isn't just pave-and-forget.

Maybe her ground was too firmly attached to _her_ and could only be
drained when she was dying? While the baby's ground wasn't really,
er, grounded in the baby's body yet? Thus, it would have had to
at least wound Fawn badly, before it could drain her.
