i came across this line in a book i'm reading, and wondered what a small
change would make:

a seventeen and 1/2 year old gets out of hte taxi in front of hotel.
"can i help you sir?" asks the barely older bellhop.

what if it said "the slightly older bellhop" instead?
barely and slightly mean almost the same, but 'barely older' seems younger
than 'slightly older'.
why is that?

ziviya, bec playing with words is so much fun
