If he's coming over 441 from Knoxville, TN to pick up the
beginning of the Parkway, he'll be only about 12 miles from my
house. Since he's planning to end up in Atlanta, you might want
to have him head up toward the other end of the Parkway and come
back toward Cherokee because US 441 will take him South right
into I-985, and then into I-85 into Atlanta if he's aiming for a
town on the Eastern side of the City. If he's going to be
teaching at Young Harris or someplace on the West or Northwest
side of the city, you might want to send him on US441 to US 74
West, and then down from Murphy, NC into Georgia through
Blairsville. While he's in Cherokee (if he uses that section of
the Parkway) he can see the outdoor Drama UNTO THESE HILLS, and
the Occonoluftee Indian Village which is a recreation of the
historical arts and crafts of the Cherokee, and the Museum of
the Cherokee Indian, which are all clustered together along the
same mountainside. And you can have him get in touch with me at
both the zafaran at sff.net and/or zafaran at fastmail.fm addresses if
he wants a local to play tour guide since I live beside the
Great Smokey Mountains National Park, the southern terminus of
the Parkway, and the Qualla Boundary (which is the reservation
of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indian). We're close enough
to "Hot"-lanta that we go there for meetings and day-trip
shopping runs, and the college kids at Western go down there
clubbing and such, so--depending on where he ends up around
Atlanta, it's just as easy for him to come back up here on a day
trip. If he's a John Ringo fan, I can show him the sites of the
battles in the Fleet Strike series while I'm at it (A Hymn
Before Battle, Gust Front, When the Devil Dances, Hells Faire}.
