I note that the result of that statement was that the addresee moved.

Should that remind me of Patton's hope that his charges remained more
scared of him than of the enemy?  (very loose paraphrase and in this
case Miles was making the enemy fear him)  That particular facet might
fit in somewhat with Miles.
