That's my theory.

In my case, the addressee failed to move. At least, they may have 
shuffled backwards slightly, wearing a startled expression, but they 
certainly didn't disintegrate.

 From which I concluded that I could stop letting myself be controlled 
by the 'you are a mighty tree and I am but a fragile little flower' act, 
once, for all, and guiltlessly, and get on with my life. V. liberating, 
that.
