Not sure that's true, a lot of manic/maniac people are running 
corporations these days.  They are allowed to run the company into the 
ground, then they get a golden parachute and go on to serve on the board 
of a university, think tank, or charity.  Of course, they aren't 
scientists, just charismatic businessmen.  Miles himself almost 
qualifies.  Almost.  He walks a thin line.
