Hmm - I have mixed feelings about the wildlife, too. We have loads of
jackrabbits around here - they seem to have very successfully colonized this
city, largely living in the shrubbery around school playing fields and open
areas. They seem very partial to my pansies. But they're extremely cute
and they stop my cat from getting bored (and are big enough not to be 'prey'
- just 'entertainment'). I often step out my front door and find one
grazing peacefully on my lawn, sometimes with the cat watching in
fascination from her chair on the porch. Unfortunately we now seem to be
getting some urban coyotes, tempted by the abundant bunnies - much more
worrying as they would see the aforementioned pussycat as prey, so she has a
strict curfew. On balance, I like the bunnies and will gladly plant enough
pansies for us all to enjoy.
