At times the Dutch inflicted worse naval defeats on the English than anyone else since there have been such things as navies (unless you count my Scots ancestor and namesake, who had a royal fleet of two ships). But given which king signed the <spoilers>, the film is set well after the Glorious Revolution of 1688 in which the Prince of Orange acquired (a share of) the English throne.

Do we see a Union Flag or Royal Navy Ensign at any point in the film? At most likely dates the Union Flag should have two crosses rather than the present three. IIRC the Flag hadn't been invented yet at the date Port Royal was destroyed.

The film defies the laws of physics, never mind history, but it's fun anyway.
