It's really neat to see them on the back porch finishing off the cat food Cheryl leaves for the local strays during the day. The mama's name is Roxanne, but her 5 kits don't have names. Cheryl once asked me what they eat, I told her they were omniverous so she's been putting table scraps out for them at night.
My mother went out on the porch last night (sans glasses) to check on
the cat, whom she heard crunching away at the catfood dispenser...
Except it wasn't the cat. It was a skunk. Two skunks, in fact.
Who, forunately for us, decided to ignore her as being no threat. Even
though Mom almost petted them before getting close enough to realize
that the color pattern was wrong....

I have the (dis?)advantage of being a hick in the sticks, in an area
where the wildlife lack proper fear of humans -- the pheasants that
won't get out of the road even when you honk at them, the Kamikaze
Attack Deer that keep eating Dad's garden and throwing themselves at
passing cars, the wily coyotes (heard, but never seen), the occasional
escapee peacock from the neighbors' pen (okay, not *technically*
wildlife), and of course the aforementioned skunks...
