hah! got my book back! a bit late, please bear with me ...

when talking to rider ulkra, ingrey found that ulkra planned to smooth
things over, assuming that the crown prince and the princess wouldn't
want -fuss- about their little brother (which they can't avoid), and wouln't
want the princess to look very bad (which ulkra could help them avoid). so
its not quite ingrey who is cynical in this case, although he is cynical
enough that ulkra can tell him he plans to lie.

only ingrey would actually -ask- the prince if he wants the rough truth or
smooth lies! and ulkra was scared out of his wits hwen he did, heh. r/a/n/
edged away as soon as the prince told him to tell the truth.

what is iteresting is that, when ingrey asked biast if he prefered truth or
lies, biast remembered that ingrey would defy whom he pleased. why would
that question be defiance? disrespectful, certainly, but telling a lie when
the prince wants truth, or the other way around, would hardly be obedience,
either.

i'm not sure this is a question of respcting her integrity, as warning her
not to dump blame off herself and onto ijada, bec. the truth might come back
and bite her. hard.
also:
'you begin to think like a princess.'
her gaze grew startled... as if a new road had opned up before her...
that puzzles me.
didn't she grow up as a princess? and marrying a fairly wealthy (i think)
earl wouln't close off paths either. why would she think she can't have
things her own way, that she'll get in trouble for acting like an
aristocrat?

other interesting bits:
when learned oswin introduces himself, ingrey identifies him as 'halana's
oswin' which seems to please oswin a lot. sign of a good marriage, that.
also when oswin complains that he tries to persuade people logically as the
father's divine, he is not as successful as her almost non-effort, he sounds
more wistful than angry. another good sign.

when oswin asks about his vision, ingrey starts to deny it, then remembers
taht the son advised against denial, and admitted that his life has gotten
weird. and weyrd, too.

zivya, happily re-reading
