I don't have references, but it is pretty clear that the Weald is 
early medieval Germany, about 300 years after Charlemagne established 
the HRE.  Charlemagne died in 814 AD--add 300 years, that takes you 
to the beginning of the 12th century.  The events in the previous two 
books take place in Spain, in the late 15th century, a good 350 years later.
