I'm sort of the opposite. I got into SF because I love
discussing books (what, you noticed?) and it was a way
to find large groups of friends who loved to read and
talk about it.  My general disinterest in SF was
irrelevant; there's lots of good SF and I was happy to
read it. It still isn't my favourite genre, but genre
doesn't matter compared to quality.

Way to go! That's half the battle. If she likes
Firefly, she obviously has good taste.
