I don't think he was wrong - to me, Ista is more sword-like than her mother
(not more so than Iselle, though). It was the dratsaB who found a way around
it - he used her will, her anger, to access her soul. Also, her sainthood I
think is rather different from Caz's - instead of having a god reach through
her into the world, she takes something from the world and throws it at her
god, a little to the reverse (well, she has to give the god access to
herself, but not let him through. And her position ("I am the mouth of
Hell")... I don't think it can be taken, in such times, by anyone who is
_not_ a sword and a very skilled one at that.

Of course, all this is my own opinion, based mostly on her joy that she can
swear at her god. The two of them (dratsaB and Ista) manage to turn her
anger into prayer, so find a way to make the sword glow with divine fire.

(The father also uses her to take something away of the world - again, he
doesn't reach through her, beyond her. He reaches her; she reaches beyond
and makes the connection).
