I think they are the same think; Live Journal is one web site that 
has a bunch of blogs on it (including yrs trly), and there are all 
sorts of other places where people can keep web logs, including their 
own personal setups.

I think it would probably compete for time with your other online 
computer use.  You seem to follow this mailing list and the Forum on 
Baen's Bar.  Other authors use newsgroups elsewhere, such as on 
sff.net (a pretty wide assortment of authors are there).   I think 
you can do one, or possibly even two, but I would think that more 
than that would indeed interfere with other more important things in 
your life (like writing that next book!)
