I never leave this sort of thing to the vendor.  I just put the books
I want people to read face out myself.  I haven't started moving them
to the endcaps yet, but it's an idea :-)

I usually put at least Cordelia's Honor, the newest book and the one
with the nicest cover flat.  I'm considering branching out into
writing little recommendation index cards and putting them on the "We
recommend" shelves.
