Synonyms, as far as I know. Blog feels more generic while Livejournal is a
brand name.
You could always copy the posts that you have already written to the list
and the Bar, things like the home renovation updates, or add links to the
posts for EOS (except maybe later if they want exclusivity for now), or just
use it as a convenient place to put links to those places. I think the main
advantage is the permanency, collectedness and filtered nature of it; the
place is just for those who only want to see Your postings and comments are
quite clearly separated out.
I confess that I adore authors' blogs though. I check in CJ Cherryh's quite
often to see how her saltwater tank is going, and I'm always thrilled when I
log on to my LJ friends list and see a post from Michelle Sagara on
publishing or bookselling or just an update that she is working on another
novel.
Maybe "try before you buy" thing and see if it works?
