The tandem bicycling listserve I'm on (tandem AT hobbes DOT ucsd) 
recently had a post describing an encounter with a deer at speed by a 
list-member's car ... with the member's tandem bike on top, on a roof 
rack. Dead deer, windshield cracked and crazed all to heck ... but 3 
thousand dollars' worth of tandem bike irreparably wrecked.
