My spouse *promised* I would *never* have to learn another text editor
if only I would learn this one. So I struggled with it, eventually got
reasonably good (for my purposes at least) and even learned to love some
functions (yank rectangle-block of text---never seen that command
anywhere else, and it's perfect for chopping out all the permissions and
junk out of a list of file names) and all was basically happy with the
world. Xemacs took a bit of getting used to, but not too bad. Loved it
back when firefox responded to emacs commands, but of course they made
it more windoze like, and that went away, bummer.
Even bigger bummer: spam. the emacs program simply can't cope and it's
too old to build filters in---or so the wizard informs me. So I'm using
evolution for mail, and it's very slick, but I really miss the emacs
editing commands. I know, I could compose in emacs, then cut and paste,
but I often get weird line breaks, and it's a pest.
Ah well.
