British influence? I see no British influence. Lots
of *Russian* influence, what with the language and the
governing system and the names and naming conventions
and so on, and the hint of French in certain names, as
well as the noted Greek minorities and Greek
influences. Where's this British stuff?

If you're referencing Miles' name, there is that
scene in 'Barrayar' where Piotr refused to let him
carry his name, and so instead of being Piotr Miles
for both his grandfathers he became plain Miles for
his Betan grandfather. I don't see that as a
Barrayaran influence. Beta seems to have been settled
by primarily American colonists. Apart from Cordelia,
who is not Barrayaran, and her effect on Miles, which
is not general, I see no British influence on
Barrayar.

who loves debate!)
