my kid can't sit still anywhere, including grandma's house :) he has time
to run around, also he likes doing cartwheels across the house, but he still
can't sit and focus. he's a very good kid, but sometimes we can see he's
trying to be still and absolutely can't. it frustrates him that other
people can do this but he can't. its actually a relief to know that
something might be 'officially' wrong and there are ways to treat it.

we actually had him tested for several things, and he's fine.

my husband and i don't actually own a television - one of the best family
decisions we made, considering how a lot of programming went down hill even
sinice we've gotten married. (never seen a reality tv show, am i missing
much? ) also we don't let the children play computer games exept for a
short hwile in the summer. never during school term. as a city kid, he
doesn't have much contact with actual nature, but we try.

he does get more hyper with more sugar, as do most kids, but even when we
cut out all candy and soda, and most other refined sugar sources, he can't
control himself.

it’s a whole set of characteristics, including distractibility,
impulsiveness, difficulty making friends, restlessness, moodiness, and
other things that sound a lot like Timothy.
yes, that's what makes me think it might be ADHD after all. we spoke to the
school psychiatrist and he asked us a list of questions, ie does he do this
or that, does he react like this or that in different situations. so its
not just the hyperness. its a bunch of other things that don't seem
related to it, but apparetnly they are all symptoms.

thanks to everyone who sent advice and sympathy!
