It's different when you are performing.  I dislike the idea that
smiling when I'm not performing is an obligation anyone has the
right to 'remind' me to do.  One doesn't remind people to do
things they're not obliged to do, and I don't owe smiles to the
world.

A lot of people find the expression I get when I'm concentrating
off-putting, I'm told, which is why I get so much of this.  But
as I explained to a co-worker, I can smile or I can do my work,
which would you prefer?
