i walked my kids to school for three years, they were ages six to one - who
made the round trip back home with me :)

now the six year old is nine and walks himeself and the next youngest, and i
take the toddler later.

walking gave us 20 more minutes of wake-up, find-the-shoes, eat breakfast
than taking the school bus, which they did for two months in winter.

the problem with letting short kids walk to school alone is that the parents
dropping their kids off -don't seem to notice- other kids crossing the
school's corner. huh? do they think they have the only kids in this
school? *grumble*
so i want my kids to walk an extra block, cross at a traffic-light, and back
track. since i'm not there, :( they likely take the more dangerous, closer
corner.
(but they haven't been hit yet! how dangerous could it be, mom?)

ziviya, who gave up membership at the gym and started walking the mile+
round trip, twice a day
