Oh, there's no question of that.  But spontaneous smiles are
necessary to do that.

Heh, yes. :)  I'm not quibbling with the canon!  Only with
someone a few threads back who spoke of 'reminding' people to
smile, as if smiling were a civic duty like recycling, wiping the
toilet seat, &c.
