Deleting all the quotations ... that ought to get the quote pixie's 
commendation! ... I should imagine that "regimental" meaning sans 
smallclothes might derive from the uniform of the 48th Regiment of Foot. 
There's nothing under the kilt. I have no cites for this, however. ;)
