Those still drive me bonkers.  I can't stand the color of the light,
even the ones with high CRIs.  Blech.  Since my preference for natural
light is that from dawn and dusk and autumn over summer, it's no
surprise that I tolerate yellow incandescent light (as well as halogen)
better.

I will concede that fluorescents have improved.  But I know of very few
visual artists who prefer them, and most I've spoken to actively dislike
them.  Ott-lites with tru color bulbs seem to be the most acceptable.
Yes, I have one.  Yes, I use it.  But my low-light acuity, like the
ability to read quality stamps on earwires---which I did with ease in my
20s---has degraded significantly.

Overtaken technology is indeed a bane for all sf.  This is why not going
into excrutiating detail actually comes across with greater
freshness....
