Thy will Milady,
>From my admittedly dim, and at the time alcohol fogged memory...
Among the reasons were;
Miles is basically either asexual or really a disguised female.
That you hadn't published enough short fiction to "earn your stipes."
That you had won to many awards and couldn't possibly deserve that much success, much less as fast as you got it.
That your covers proved you and Baen didn't know what you were doing.
That you shouldn't get any more Hugo's because that would mean you were better than whoever he said had more than you.
That your stories had no redeeming social value. Because SF/F authors are supposed to teach and enlighten.
Keep in mind that this man had spent fifteen years finishing/editing his novel. Which he said would revolutionize SF and be "totally different" from anything in the market now. And that he would refuse any deal from any publisher that wanted him to change anything in the book.
I spent two enthralling hours going over these points, other writers , my new business and fandom, but mostly over 'Bujold is a hack'. It was one of the more entertaining conversations I've had at a con.
The world always makes the assumption that the exposure of an error is identical with the discovery of truth--that the error and truth are simply opposite. They are nothing of the sort. What the world turns to, when it is cured of one error, is usually simply another error, and maybe one worse than the first one. H. L. Mencken

At the opposite end of the spectrum I had a trully entrancing
conversation with a SMOF at Libertycon last year. The mental contortions
one needed to make to follow, much less actually believe his arguements
were entrancingly breathtaking in their scope.
Being who I am I greatly enjoyed it.
*** Well, dish! Tell all. We need some stimulus. Besides, it's
always of interest to me what kinds of minds do/don't "get" my books,
and why.
Don't name names, though.

While wandering around panels at Norwescon this weekend I was told
repeatedly that Lois McMaster Bujold just doesn't count. And by different
people each time!
At a panel discussing whether men could write women and women write
men, someone brought up Bujold. Bad example; Bujold is such a good writer
that it isn't really fair to compare other authors to her. Talking about
keeping books honest in a long running series I heard that Bujold doesn't
count because she's such a good author that of course she does everything
right. And at least one other time I brought up Bujold in a point-of-view
discussion, and heard that "Bujold doesn't count" because if she wrote a
story from the point of view of a clipboard, everyone would understand it
and appreciate the life of a clipboard.
All this and she wasn't even GoH this year.
