Well, do you know what tea leaves have to do with
carpet cleaners?*

I watched the bunny rabbit episode of M*A*S*H on rerun
and my question was, "Why do they have to operate on
Radar's rabbit to see if *Hoolihan's* pregnant?" My
mother, a registered nurse, then sat down and
explained how the old pregnancy tests used to work.
My next question was, "So why hadn't the rabbit
already *been* spayed?" (I'm a child of the
post-myxamatosis era, and the only rabbits allowed in
my home state are licensed personal pets which have
been spayed or neutered. Pet rabbit still equals
spayed rabbit in my head.) To which my mother had no
answer.

I learned how to manage that in typing class in the
late eighties, so that's not so old really.

* In Victorian times, they used to scatter damp used
tea leaves onto carpets and floors; the leaves would
gather up the dirt and dust, and so when they were
swept up the carpets would be cleaner than if they had
been simply swept.
