I'll also suggest Karen Traviss' Shan books - extreme conservation in the
future, with a strong female lead. Shan's a bit over the top by the fifth
book, but the first first three, especially the first one, are very good.

_City of Pearl_
_Crossing the Line_
_The World Before_
_Matriarch_
_Ally_

_Tinker_ and _Wolf Who Rules_ by Wen Spencer also have a strong female lead
and are fun.

Also, not the most brilliant of books, but I enjoyed them the first time I
read them and haven't really come across enough of them for a serious
reread, the Stardoc series by S.L. Viehl. Not sure what the rest of the
series is called.

_Stardoc_

Of course, if young adult fantasy books with strong female leads aren't
objected to, Tamora Pierce is another author to try, as is Robin McKinley.
McKinley doesn't tend to write series, although some of her books are
connected, but _Sunshine_ and _Rose Daughter_ are just lovely. Other than to
say _Rose Daughter_ is based off Beauty and the Beast, I won't attempt to
describe them, since I'm not very good at that.

Apart from the S.L.Viehl, which is not readily available in New Zealand, I
have most of these in my library.

I have CDO. It's like Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, only in alphabetical
order as it should be.

Prayer, he suspected as he hoisted himself up and turned for the door, was
putting one foot in front of the other. Moving all the same.
