How about the Adamses of Massachusetts? Four generations of
brilliance (John and Samuel, John Quincy, Charles Francis, and Henry
Adams). Or how about the Virginians prominent in the early US
government? Four of the first five US presidents were
Virginians. For that matter, didn't JFK say, when he had a dinner
for American Nobel price winners, that it was possibly the most
intelligent group of people to have dinner in the White House, except
possibly for the evenings Mr. Jefferson dined alone?

Miller and Lee (the Liaden universe). I preferred to read them in
chronological order, but that was before the late "Crystal" duology,
which were a thousand-year prequel. Start with Local Custom, and
Scout's Progress (either first), then Agent of Change, Conflict of
Honors, Carpe Diem, Plan B, and I Dare. Or, as a stand-alone,
Balance of Trade.
