So what did he say?   - I have been wearing slacks or pants for years.  
I grew up a tomboy  - everytime my mother came at me with a dress 
(usually the very frilly  scratchy kind) - I went straight up the 
nearest tree.

It was only when I went to teacher's college in the early 70's did I 
have to start wearing skirts or dresses all the time.  Female teachers  
in those days had to wear dresses with stockings  in  all weather.  
Thank god that  rule has gone for good.
