i remember reading the book, bec. it was so popular.

as far as i was concerned, it committed the great sin of bookdom - it was
boring :)

also it felt like a narnia ripoff, for some reason. i figured that out
after finding out that narnia was sort of a xtian focus and golden compass
was an atheist focus. i think a lot of references went right over my head,
so didn't catch my interest. at least narnia was light entertainment.

also in the golden compass (or sequel?) toward the end of hte book, the
main character's father got killed by a woman who was annoyed that he
wouln't sleep with her. never mind that he had promised to be faithful to
his wife, the wife was there and this otherowman was. it is very seldom
that i get 3/4 through a book and can't stand to finish, but this book made
the list.

ziviya
who finishes boring books bec. i read everything else in the house already
:) (twice)
