Like others, I recommend Sandra Boynton's books - my kids loved them.  But
the crème de la crème of board books are published by Usborne, and the
touchy-feely series 'That's Not My.....' are gorgeous, and really little
ones adore the tactile element.  They have lots of different titles to
appeal to boys or girls - That's Not my Kitten, That's Not my Dragon, That's
Not My Tractor, etc.  Yummy,
