And one of the all time classic children's books: Anything by Beatrix 
Potter.  I have fond memories of them as a child, and getting them at 
the library to read myself when I was older.  They were on a little 
wooden shelf/nest on top of the regular bookshelves in the little kids 
section of the library.   (About waist high to me now).

Another classic: Clifford the Big Red Dog.  No idea as to the author but 
I remember those.
