After cleaning house for what seems like most of the day, and sitting down 
with a glass of wine (Hail to thee, O Two Buck Chuck!), I am looking at 
e-mail for the brief time that remains till people start showing up.

Happy New Year!

And Happy Birthday to Victoria L'Ecuyer, she of the strong language, 
opinions, and character! May she continue to provide a source of information 
and entertainment for the coming year, and enjoy it all immensely. May she 
celebrate with food and drink of her choice, friends beyond counting, and a 
boatload of books.

(Faithful Companion comes out from under the couch, where she's been hiding 
from the Vacuum Monster for an hour or so, not knowing that Strange People 
will be over here soon, whereupon she'll either go back under the couch, or 
jump up into laps and demand Goodies. Has some knots in her fur, but not 
nearly as much as last year at this time).

Huzzah!
