Laura G. wrote in reference to one's child's body-image:

"I don't think my parents would ever have thought of
telling me I was beautiful. I'm guessing it would have
been considered a bad idea, something that would make me
vain."

And she makes a point of telling *her* kids how terrificly
they're made.

Anecdote: My mother told me two things about myself: She
told me I had "lion-colored" hair and that I "reminded
her of the Nike of Samothrace." Well I found a picture
of the latter when I was 15, and both images have
stuck with me over and above anything anyone else has
ever told me (or tried to tell me) about how I look.

Actual Real Life (TM) study (more than one, but this is
the one for my region, the Snoqualmie Valley, that I have
access to): Primary influence on a teenager (~age 13-16)
is his or her parents.

Thackery: Mother is the word for God on the lips and in
the hearts of little children.

So huzzah for you Laura G.--!

One day, no doubt, your Mighty Mites will be posting what
a great mother they got.

Kirsten Edwards
