As someone who appreciates looking at attractive
women (Pretty women and pretty plants are
my two favorite things to draw); I am in some
sympathy with the gents who share my tastes rather
more, ah, fervently, if you will.

Nevertheless, I think it was the dressaday maven
(www.dressaday.com)who pointed out that "prettiness
is not a rent you pay for occupying a space marked
"female".

It's a wicked old world and a vale of tears: if
you get a treat for the eyes (or merely a surcease
from the wossname, food for worms &etc.) count it
as a blessing and a bonus. It surely isn't an
entitlement.

I also maintain (however) that costume is a social act,
part of the dance of manners. Those who insist that what
they wear is independent of the local consensus, and
entirely a question of their own personal comfort and
tastes, won't get much more than a hairy eyeball [*] from
me if they come wailing that "it's not fair" when the
social consequences of their choices hit 'em between the
eyes.

Which is one of the great joys, bye-the-bye of living in
boonesville. What one wears (or doesn't wear) about the
place (esp. in summer when the deciduous trees screen out
ALL the neighbors) is entirely dependent on the local
flora, fauna, climate and planned activities.

[*] Obviously, I exempt teenagers. Tea and sympathy for
having to learn something the hard way are always in offing
for the young.
