I vehemently agree with this. Particularly in the case of
Supernatural, where the OMG-Vehemently-Anti-Wincest crowd writes
gen that ignores the canonical "that's just wrong" moments. In
canon the boys are constantly taken for gay lovers rather than
brothers by strangers. (and yes, I can quote chapter and verse
:p) There are reasons for this, you know?

I don't think of World Well Lost, Lightning War or any spinoffs
thereof as polyfic even though there are multiple pairings in it
because most of my characters would not think of themselves as
"poly", even if they knew what it meant. It's a
term I will never again use for myself regardless of where I go
relationship-wise because it seems to have a lot of
philosophical/cultural stuff attached to it. To me that's like
calling slash "gayfic".
In WWL Dracaena and Ercole are first and foremost and always each
other's and play like fiends, but if you asked her if Ercole was
her primary she'd tell you indignantly that he was her husband
and she was his wife and the boys were their knights and ask you
what kind of person tolerates being called 'secondary' by a lover
with her puzzled-bee face.
In LW, Zsuzsanna is the wife of Vilem and Stepan; they are
brothers, she is their wife, that's just how it is, they know
it's weird but they don't need a name for it, thanks, we have to
fight hard enough to stay human, we don't need another reminder
that we're not like other people. I think the only people in
LW that would fit into a modern-think "poly" paradigm are
Julian/St John (except where Dracaena's concerned) and
Lavinia/Edward...
