What he said.  At least we usually have sand and salt to hand.  But
until the trucks get out with the stuff, we lose vehicles (including,
occasionally, a sand truck).  I try not to be in one of them by
staying home and seriously not scoffing.  Or, when I was at work,
staying later until the impatient ones got off the road.  (That
strategy left me at work for 4 days in the NE blizzard of 78, and I
finally walked home, but at least I had shelter. :<} )
