We did. I haven't left the house since Thursday. Karl came home
Friday evening with groceries, and we settled in for a winter weekend
at home. Cancelled on gaming Saturday, skipped church on Sunday.
And for all that, it wasn't as bad as we expected through Sunday. It
seemed that the line of really bad weather was always just north of
us. There was ice, icicles on the roof, but there was also a liquid
puddle on the front walk. Our friend Miles came over Saturday and
stayed over, so we had company and some gaming after all.
Then last night, it got worse. I was woken at 3:30 - Jamie's come
down sick with croup. The kid's been in the special ed preschool for
all of three days, and already he's sick. Poor baby. Fortunately he
didn't have school today anyway. But when we were up, we could hear
the ice hitting the north windows, and I could see the gleaming ice on
the street.
Karl had to spend a bunch of time with a bucket of hot water to get
his car's door open. Then he was out there for a while with it
running to warm up, scraping off ice - had to come back in for a
kettle of warm water to get the ice off the mirrors. But he did arrive
at work safely. It's not going above freezing today, but we do have
sun, so all the black roofs and black roads are melting. So probably
a lot better on the way home, since it doesn't look like we'll have
more rain. We are predicted to have snow showers on Wednesday, then
it gets significantly warmer again.
