This is really probably useless, but I just couldn't let it go by 
without mentioning Neil Gaiman's _The Wolves in the Walls_.  It's a 
creepy book for toddlers, which is not what you asked for, being a) for 
toddlers, and 2) creepy.  Still, it's a story by Neil Gaiman, with 
illustrations.  What more could you want?

(If you have a Barnes & Noble, Borders, Books-A-Million, or similar big 
  box store near you, I suggest you visit and pick out a few books based 
on your current and future needs.  I'm sure you will find plenty of 
nice, expensive, big name baby books there. Or, you could do like my 
sister, and go to Goodwill.  It's sometimes amazing the things people 
are willing to part with. :)
