have you ever listened to a young child at play, or concentrating on a 
project?  they tend to talk to themselves.  low level sound, but pretty 
constant.  i have met adults who do that. most of htem are mentally retarted 
to some extent or other.

imagine trying to work with an adult who, although keeping her mouth shut, 
cannot shut off hte low-level mental noise that goes with thinking and 
feeling.

constantly reminding one's self that -its not her fault- is very tireing, 
and the adult who can't damp her ground will find herself shunned by many 
who are too busy/tired to deal with it.
