It seems to me that even the number of purchases would be hard to establish.
I can think off-hand of a number of complicating factors --
used bookstores, garage sales, books purchased and/or read abroad, campus
bookstores where used books are resold, online purchases ... can they even
factor in something a sprawling as amazon marketplace purchases, for
instance?
